Joan Torne has been with San José State University since
October 2002, having served in positions within Personnel Services,
Classification & Compensation and Data & Technical Services of the HRSG. During
these years, she was part of the university staff fee waiver program and
recently earned her Master’s Degree in May 2006 through SJSU’s rigorous
Sociology program while emphasizing in Organizational Theory. Joan provides
expertise in research methods such as surveys and data analysis to support the
efforts in measuring the effectiveness of the HR function. Through the use of
the Balanced Scorecard and effective budgeting, she provides a roadmap to the
department’s quality improvement initiatives. Joan supervises the Data
Technical Team to provide tools such as reports for the use of planning,
controlling and evaluating efforts in the HRSG and partners with CMS to ensure
data integrity in HR PeopleSoft. She received her undergraduate degree from the
University of San Francisco in International Business Management, and has
recently obtained a certification in Professional Human Resources (PHR). Joan
will be starting her Doctoral Program in Organization and Leadership at the
University of San Francisco this Fall 2007. Joan is very committed in upholding
personal and organizational continuous improvement.
